"Near Das Schider looms all 2492 meters of the Graukogel mountain. To get to the top, visitors can hike up the various trails to the top or take two lifts, which brings them directly to one of Bad Gastein’s traditional restaurants: Graukogelhütte. Here, traditional Viennese food and drink are served with an unforgettable mountain view.
The famed Stubnerkogel ski resort lies just 6 minutes away by bus, and its spectacular views make it a perfect day trip, no matter the season. Prefer to keep your feet on the ground? Check out the nearby Nassfeld, a lush valley area covered in winding streams.
With over 40 different ski lifts in the Gastein valley, there’s something for everyone, from beginner skiers to professionals in search of a challenge. If skiing isn’t your strength, try out nature trails like Zirbenweg, nestled in a forest of 300-year-old pine trees.
There’s no better way to relax than to sit in a thermal bath and breathe in the mountain air. With water heated directly by the planet’s inner workings, it’s an authentic Alps experience unlike any other.
The first mention of Bad Gastein dates back to 1020, when a history book described the place as a peaceful village. This history can be felt in the architecture of the centuries-old streets, buildings and churches, which remained largely untouched during the Second World War.
